Job Title: LVN/LPN
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Schedule: 7:00AM – 7:00PM x 3
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $51 – $55/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a LVN/LPN for a temporary assignment in State College, Pennsylvania. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a LVN/LPN:
• Assesses and responds to the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and interaction; acts as a patient advocate
• Utilizes professional nursing skills and judgment; takes action to implement nursing care and treat the problems identified
• Communicates patient assessments to the appropriate individuals ensuring the coordination of patient care
• Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG; demonstrates skills in IV therapy
• Transcribes and implements physicians’ orders in an accurate and timely manner while admitting patients to the surgical center efficiently
• Documents in the patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a timely manner; checks required information on the patient record to comply with correct surgical procedures; completes final review of patient record to ensure all paperwork and activities such as site marking are complete and that the anesthesiologist has spoken to the patient and family
• Provides appropriate and knowledgeable instruction/education to patients and their families
• Decrements supplies according to policy; utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care
• Assists with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed for patients
• When assigned to PACU, uses knowledge and critical thinking to assess and provide appropriate nursing care; recognizes patients’ needs, maintains airway, monitors vital signs, utilizes correct medication to control pain, and consults with surgeon and anesthesiologist if difficulties arise; evaluates patient status using discharge criteria to safely transition patient to Phase 2
• Familiar with the transfer process and procedure to send a patient to the medical center
• When functioning as a float nurse, maintains communications between all areas, assists staff as needed to maintain flow, relieves staff for breaks and lunch in a timely manner, and utilizes staff in a cost-effective manner
• Works as assigned in the pain management and eye laser procedure rooms
• Familiar with anesthesia supplies; assists with nerve blocks; knows location of crash cart, MH cart, and medications that may be needed in an emergency
• Participates in committee meetings, offers suggestions for improvements, and seeks guidance and direction when needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
