Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a PTA for a permanent assignment in Sitka, Alaska.
Responsibilities for a PTA:
• Provide physical therapy assistant treatments based on the physical therapist’s plan of care, focusing on PT goals and patient outcomes
• Review clinical records and case histories to inform treatment approaches
• Attend care conferences, regular meetings/rounds, and maintain contact with referring providers, nurses, and other rehabilitation professionals to review patient status and individual needs
• Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate medical equipment is arranged and care plans are established prior to patient discharge
• Document patient encounter findings and treatments, including diagnoses, treatment plans, recommendations, and prognoses in accordance with applicable policies
• Provide services in a timely manner following receipt of referral for both in-patient and out-patient populations in various settings
• Direct the work of support staff, students, and interns as assigned
• Facilitate a healthcare partnership between providers, patients, and their families
• Develop, implement, and conduct patient education and therapy programs based on patient and/or family needs
• Provide patients and families with home exercise programs to achieve the fullest rehabilitative potential
• Advise patients and family members in methods that facilitate self-care and independence, demonstrating sensitivity to cross-cultural issues
• Assist other staff in administrative matters, clinic operations, and specialty/research areas as appropriate
• Utilize the hospital computer system to obtain patient information, stay current with hospital directives, and participate in the timely and efficient flow of information
• Provide summaries of results, statistics, and metrics as required by management
• Assist with the acquisition and fitting of durable medical equipment and devices based on patient needs
• Maintain supply stocks and clinical equipment at acceptable levels
• Remain current in billing procedures and mechanisms, including Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers
• Maintain cleanliness of clinical space
• Perform therapy services in a variety of settings, including in-patient, out-patient, off-site locations, community events, home visits, and remote locations
• Participate in video conferencing for patient encounters, training, and administrative duties with off-site locations
• Conduct home assessments to evaluate patient living arrangements, use of durable medical equipment, and implementation of therapy plans in the home environment
• Travel occasionally to remote locations by boat or small plane, potentially in inclement or harsh weather conditions
• Educate staff on physical therapy issues and educate patients and families on therapeutic exercises, activities, and equipment
• Assist in committee and management duties within the Rehabilitation Services Department as requested
• Provide therapy consultation, presentations, and in-service training to medical staff, consultants, and other interdisciplinary healthcare personnel
• Participate as a learner or teacher in clinical education, in-service training, and continuing education activities
• Adhere to the regulatory and practice standards of the PTA as set by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
• Follow all confidentiality and quality assurance standards and participate in quality management functions
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Maintain valid Physical Therapist Assistant licensure
• Complete Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency assessments within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter
• Perform other duties or activities as assigned
