Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a MA for a permanent assignment in Juneau, Alaska.
Responsibilities for a MA:
• Perform duties of Clinical Assistant 1 with additional experience or education to apply more extensive knowledge of medical practice and terminology and judgment
• Prepare for patient visits by reviewing charts for needed forms, follow-up labs, or procedures required
• Obtain and record age-appropriate vital signs per department protocol, including temperature, height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, respiration, pulse oximetry, and visual acuity testing
• Obtain medical history updates and confirm medication history
• Accurately collect and document information in patient charts; keep patient records in order with all forms properly identified; copy and compile medical data as needed
• Ensure patient medication and immunization records are current
• Recognize signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and act appropriately
• Transport patients within the facility as needed
• Demonstrate ability to smoothly manage patient care duties while maintaining clinic flow
• Report and record changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients, unusual incidents, or breaches in safety
• Observe patients to ensure children, elderly, or impaired patients who require observation or assistance have someone in attendance
• Set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor procedures
• Prepare patients for and assist with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries
• Provide specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT); follow protocol for collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens
• Apply heat/cold packs, abdominal binders, anti-embolism stockings, obtain 12-lead EKGs per competency assessment, peak flow, and apply oxygen as ordered with appropriate provider written orders
• Assist patients with ambulation or transfer; perform minor treatments such as simple dressing changes, nebulizer treatments, ear lavage, cast removal, use of an automated defibrillator (AED), airway management techniques, and DM foot screenings
• Provide basic patient education materials and discharge instructions as directed by the provider
• Sanitize exam rooms between patients; appropriately process surgical equipment and ensure sterile package integrity; maintain a safe and clean environment
• Ensure exam room supplies are organized and stocked; maintain lab equipment and organize lab supplies; inventory, re-order, and stock medical supplies
• Dispose of solid/liquid waste and infectious materials according to infection control standards
• Perform basic health coaching and patient education according to evidence-based guidelines using patient education materials
• Conduct daily/weekly/monthly QA checks on equipment and maintain logs
• Demonstrate correct utilization of computer-based health information systems and electronic health record systems; notify provider or supervisor of any repairs or safety concerns
• Answer inquiries of a general nature from nursing staff, provider staff, other departments, visitors, and patients in a friendly and cooperative manner; receive and relay messages; use proper telephone etiquette; make confirmation calls to patients as needed
• Provide cross-coverage for peers, helping clinics that need assistance to ensure efficient and effective patient flow
• Attend and participate in at least 50% of staff meetings annually; apply information presented in staff meetings; participate in unit goal setting
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Complete Clinical Competency assessment within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• Must have urgent care experience
