Job Title: Sterile Processing Tech
Location: Gardner, Massachusetts
Schedule: 7:00AM – 7:00PM x 3
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $26 – $28/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Sterile Processing Tech for a temporary assignment in Gardner, Massachusetts. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Sterile Processing Tech:
• Create assignments as needed and communicate with the OR charge nurse/practice leader about operational needs
• Ensure smooth operation of necessary surgical instrumentation in perioperative services throughout the day and monitor throughput
• Maintain CRCST certification as well as necessary continued education
• Assist supervisor with setting up continued education and in-services for the central sterile department
• Ensure proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis
• Order daily supplies and maintain supply inventory
• Run biological and chemical tests at the beginning of the day shift and record results in the appropriate log
• Inspect gas and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction and report to the Central Sterile Supervisor
• Use knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization
• Process all items appropriately using either ethylene oxide or steam sterilization
• Assist with processing department supply charges and any other clerical work related to Central Service as requested
• Work closely with the Central Service Supervisor and assist with orientation for new personnel
• Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments and perform general cleaning of department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets, and all storage areas
• Store all supplies and equipment and stock Central Service dispensing racks
• Demonstrate knowledge regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation, and special procedure items
• Perform tray assemblage, proper packaging, and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization and monitor sterility dates on supplies
• Properly load, operate, and clean all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required
• Restock patient care unit supply carts and reconcile charges if necessary; complete lost charge sheets and provide to the Nurse Manager as needed
• Stock all supply carts on nursing units
• Participate in departmental performance improvement activities
• Clean all forms of scopes by hand and utilize the medivator process to clean scopes in a high-level disinfection manner
• Help order supplies to maintain appropriate supply levels and facilitate patient flow and turnover
• Assist other departments when asked and perform any other duties as assigned
