Location: Sitka, Alaska
Schedule: 7:00AM – 5:00PM x 4
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $85 – $91/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a SLP for a temporary assignment in Sitka, Alaska. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a SLP:
• Provide Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) evaluations and treatments in outpatient settings for adult and pediatric patients, impacting functional abilities
• Perform patient assessments, evaluations, and establish plans of care and therapeutic interventions for patients across a wide range of ages with varying diagnoses and skill needs
• Implement, supervise, and modify therapy plans of care based on assessment of patient response to optimize outcomes
• Review clinical records and case histories
• Attend care conferences, regular meetings/rounds, and maintain contact with referring providers, nurses, and other rehabilitation professionals to review patient status and individual needs
• Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate medical equipment is arranged and care plans are established prior to patient discharge
• Document patient encounter findings and treatments including diagnoses, treatment plans, recommendations, and prognoses in accordance with hospital and/or Home Health policies
• Provide services in a timely manner after receipt of referral in both inpatient and outpatient settings
• Direct the work of support staff, students, or interns as needed
• Develop, implement, and conduct patient education and therapy programs based on patient and/or family needs
• Provide patients and families with home exercise programs to achieve the fullest rehabilitative potential
• Advise patients and family members in methods that facilitate self-care and independence, demonstrating sensitivity to cross-cultural issues
• Perform therapy services in community settings including community clinics, senior centers, home assessments, and other collaborative efforts
• Conduct home assessments to evaluate patient living arrangements, use of durable medical equipment, and implementation of therapy plans in the home environment
• Participate in video conferencing for training, patient encounters, and administrative duties with off-site locations
• Occasionally travel to remote locations by boat or small plane, potentially in inclement or harsh weather conditions, for multi-day assignments
• Assist senior staff in administrative matters, clinic operations, and specialty/research areas as appropriate
• Utilize hospital computer systems to obtain patient information and participate in the timely and efficient flow of information
• Provide summaries of results, statistics, and metrics as required by management
• Assist in the acquisition and fitting of durable medical equipment/devices based on patient needs
• Maintain supply stocks and clinical areas at acceptable levels
• Remain current in billing procedures and mechanisms including Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers to aid in reimbursement of services and equipment
• Maintain cleanliness of clinical space
• Educate staff on SLP issues and educate patients and families on therapeutic exercises, activities, and equipment
• Assist in committee and management duties within and representing the Rehabilitation Services Department as requested
• Provide therapy consultation, presentations, and in-service education to medical staff, consultants, and other interdisciplinary healthcare personnel
• Participate in continuing education as a learner or teacher to remain current with therapy procedures and techniques
• Adhere to the regulatory and practice standards of Speech-Language Pathology as established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
• Maintain valid Alaska State licensure and current CCC-SLP certification
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Comply with flu vaccine requirements
• Follow all confidentiality and quality assurance standards
• Perform other duties or activities as assigned
