Schedule: 8:00AM – 5:00PM x 5
Term: 10-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $44 – $48/hr

Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a MA for a temporary assignment in Juneau, Alaska. These positions are 10-week contracts with the ability to extend.

Responsibilities for a MA:

• Must have current National Medical Assistant Certification
• Must have 1 year of Urgent Care experience within the last 2 years
• Provide care to infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly in an ambulatory care clinic setting
• Maintain efficient clinic operations and patient flow to maximize provider time and ensure access to care
• Perform administrative duties, data management, and handle basic clinical tasks
• Accurately collect and document information in patient charts, including patient medical history
• Keep patient records in order with all forms properly identified; copy and compile medical data as needed
• Ensure patient medication and immunization records are current
• Recognize signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and act appropriately
• Transport patients within the facility as needed
• Smoothly manage patient care duties while maintaining clinic flow
• Report and record changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients, unusual incidents, or breaches in safety
• Observe patients to ensure children, elderly, or impaired patients requiring observation or assistance have someone in attendance
• Set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor procedures
• Prepare patients for and assist with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries
• Provide specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT); follow protocol for collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens
• Perform and assist with radiology exams per protocol if competencies are met
• Assist providers as directed and within their licensed Scope of Practice
• Assist Clinic Nurse as needed
• Provide immunizations and injections as ordered by Provider
• Perform basic life support as certified
• Assist provider in identifying patients overdue for immunizations and preventative health maintenance
• Lead Clinical Assistant I and Clinical Assistant II positions
• Provide cross-coverage for peers to ensure efficient and effective flow of patients through the department
• Attend and participate in at least 50% of area staff meetings annually
• Participate in unit goal setting and comply with area and departmental scheduling guidelines
• Make independent decisions within scope of practice based on experience and good judgment
• Utilize various EMR systems and accurately record patient data
• Operate medical equipment including blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, EKG machine, cardiac monitor, and manual defibrillator
• Communicate and interact with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team
• Recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations
• Comply with safe work rules and report all accidents, injuries, and defective equipment immediately
• Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
