Job Title: Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA)
Location: Longview, Washington
Schedule: 2:00PM – 10:00PM x 5
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $124 – $133/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA) for a locum tenens assignment in Longview, Washington. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA):
• Provide Advanced Practice Provider (APP) services in General Surgery with primary responsibility for rounding and assisting trauma surgeons
• Perform secondary responsibilities in the General Surgery clinic for post-operative trauma care
• Work variable 9-hour shifts (0700-1600) with alternating weekends; open to 4×10-hour shift schedule for the right candidate
• Provide both inpatient and outpatient care services
• Perform rounding and admissions duties
• Care for adult and geriatric patients (ages 18+), managing an average of 10-15 patients per day
• Provide post-operative care; surgical first assist experience desired but not mandatory
• Apply hospitalist background experience, which is strongly preferred for this role
• Assist trauma surgeons intraoperatively as needed (OR first assist or other intraoperative assistance required; vein harvesting and robotic surgery experience not required)
• Perform wound care procedures
• Operate within an MD sponsorship/support staff supervision model
• Utilize co-sign process for prescriptive authority until independent acquisition is complete
• Utilize Epic EMR system for all clinical documentation
• Maintain current BLS and ACLS certifications (must be from AHA or American Red Cross)
• Hold a valid Washington state license prior to start date
• Provide documentation (case list) of clinical services representative of scope and complexity of privileges requested within the previous 24 months, including diagnosis or procedure, date, and facility where performed
• Comply with flu vaccine requirement (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Collaborate with a team that may include trauma surgeons and a complementary PA in the clinic setting
