Job Title: ER MED-SURG
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Schedule: 7:00PM – 7:00AM x 3
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $54 – $58/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a ER MED-SURG for a temporary assignment in State College, Pennsylvania. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a ER MED-SURG:
• Provide professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through use of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards
• Utilize the nursing process through assessment of patient needs, development of the plan of care, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of patient care outcomes for the neonate through geriatric age population
• Triage every patient entering the emergency care system and determine priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow
• Perform hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room if patients are waiting
• Document in-depth nursing history including chief complaint, health care status, and other pertinent information
• Develop and implement a plan of care based on ongoing assessments
• Ensure that supplies and equipment for the care of emergency patients are readily available and in working order
• Continuously update the plan of care to meet the needs of patients and family or significant others based on continuous assessment and reevaluation
• Incorporate elements of discharge planning and ongoing discussion with family and patient into the care plan
• Manage all types of complications and emergencies per policies, procedures, and ENA standards
• Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care to provide for patient safety
• Document and act on patient responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care
• Implement health education for the Emergency Department patient and family or significant other
• Educate patients and families on treatment prior to initiation
• Assist patients and families with accurate information on health status and referrals
• Document understanding of discharge teaching information given to patients and families
• Effectively function as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff
• Maintain current Pennsylvania RN licensure
• Maintain current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications per American Heart Association standards
• Maintain valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Utilize EPIC computer charting system for documentation
• Be subject to scheduled on-call assignments as needed due to community event influence on Emergency Department patient volumes
• Perform related and miscellaneous duties as assigned
