Job Title: SURG-TECH
Location: San Rafael, California
Schedule: 7:00AM – 7:00PM x 3
Term: 8-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $48 – $52/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a SURG-TECH for a temporary assignment in San Rafael, California. These positions are 8-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a SURG-TECH:
• Prepare surgical suite, supplies, and equipment to meet environmental safety and infection control standards for all personnel and patients
• Ensure the integrity of sterile packaging by opening supplies aseptically while controlling environmental factors that could expose equipment
• Regularly check equipment and supplies for proper working order and ensure they are ready for each surgical procedure
• Demonstrate techniques of disinfection and sterilization by adhering to policies and procedures, ensuring a sterile field is maintained
• Perform responsibilities as a surgical scrub for preoperative care for patients by ensuring that care is individualized, meeting the needs of each patient and surgeon
• Assist with surgical procedures by anticipating the needs of surgeons and passing instruments; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
• Identify, correct, and report aseptic technique breaks to the appropriate personnel
• Assist the registered nurse with patient preparation, transfers, and in counting procedures per established policy
• Adhere to established safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
• Strictly adhere to aseptic techniques using a variety of supplies and instruments while actively monitoring the environment to ensure sterile technique is maintained throughout procedures
• Anticipate breaks in sterile technique and act according to policy
• Actively participate in the time-out process and identify potentially unsafe conditions and notify the appropriate personnel
• Demonstrate competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities
• Complete employee and patient incident documentation timely while identifying potentially unsafe conditions
• Demonstrate a complete understanding of established emergency procedures and provide appropriate support
• Participate in quality and safety activities as required
• Participate as a member of the team to promote a positive working environment and provide back-up support when necessary
• Provide new employee orientations, training courses, and guide team members
• Maintain, review, and order additional inventory based on procedures scheduled and stock on hand
• Assist with room turnover, cleanup, patient transporting, and positioning
• Make suggestions to management for policy and procedure enhancements by conducting research, reviewing results, and presenting recommendations
• Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Apply ophthalmology skills as required
