Job Title: SURG-TECH
Location: Sitka, Alaska
Schedule: 7:00AM – 5:00PM x 4
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $59 – $63/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a SURG-TECH for a temporary assignment in Sitka, Alaska. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a SURG-TECH:
• Scrub in on surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision for advanced and complex types of surgeries
• Anticipate surgeon preferences for materials and instruments and respond to these preferences in advance
• Update nursing staff based on continuing assessment of equipment needs and physician preferences
• Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and adaptability to changing patient needs
• Set up sterile table with instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications/solutions needed for surgical procedures
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble instruments and equipment and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization
• Monitor supplies and instruments to assure sterility of materials used in support of Quality Assurance of patient care
• Inventory and monitor assigned service supplies and order as needed
• Develop and implement educational programs and learning aids for the department including in-service classes, special projects, and patient care standards
• Provide input regarding the need for changes in policies, procedures, and patient care standards
• Serve as backup call for emergency cases that may require two surgical technicians
• Participate in assigned committees
• Maintain current Surgical Technologist Certification (CST)
• Maintain current BLS certification
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology with appropriate instrumentation, suturing materials, needles, prosthetic devices, and other supplies
• Apply knowledge of wound healing and complications
• Demonstrate proficiency in sterile technique and processing
• Demonstrate proficiency in patient positioning
• Handle requests effectively during surgical procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned
