Job Title: Lab Tech
Location: Carbondale, Illinois
Schedule: 7:00PM – 7:00AM x 4
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $49 – $53/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Lab Tech for a temporary assignment in Carbondale, Illinois. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Lab Tech:
• Work night shift schedule 7 on 7 off (1830-0630), rotation starting on Thursday night
• Complete training on day shift (0600-1430) for 2-3 weeks prior to night shift rotation
• Demonstrate strong blood bank experience in the Hematology Department
• Support and communicate laboratory initiatives and philosophies
• Collect, process, and receive specimens (including blood, urine, fecal, and body fluid) for analysis across all clinical laboratory departments
• Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens across all age ranges
• Participate in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory regarding personnel, equipment, cost, and establishment of reference intervals
• Write and revise technical laboratory procedures
• Perform complex laboratory procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and analyze and correct problems using scientific principles
• Analyze quality control data, make judgments concerning results, and take appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision
• Answer inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity, and specific factors that influence test results
• Review all instrument indicators and temperature monitors for laboratory departments
• Maintain self-competency in laboratory skills
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree (or Associate’s Degree for grandfathered personnel)
• Maintain CLS or MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent
• New MT Graduates must pass the certification exam within 6 months of employment start date
