Job Title: Lab Tech
Location: Machias, Maine
Schedule: 7:00PM – 7:00AM x 4
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $49 – $53/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Lab Tech for a temporary assignment in Machias, Maine. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Lab Tech:
• Perform laboratory tests and accurately report results to physicians for use in diagnosis, treatment, and/or monitoring of diseases
• Perform tasks and complex tests in all areas of the laboratory, including hematology, immunohematology, immunology, bacteriology, microscopy, routine chemistry, and therapeutic drug monitoring
• Perform phlebotomies including arterial punctures, capillary punctures, and venipunctures applying age-specific criteria as appropriate
• Process specimens utilizing established protocols and technical knowledge
• Calibrate, standardize, and maintain instruments following established procedures
• Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting protocols to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and procedures
• Prepare and maintain reagent supplies necessary to perform tests
• Validate and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
• Assist in the maintenance and development of laboratory policy and procedural manuals
• Assist with orientation and teaching of students and new employees
• Research and develop new procedures as assigned
• Follow established safety practices including biohazards, exposure control plan, infection control, universal precautions, and chemical hygiene standards
• Promote effective working relationships and work effectively as part of a department/unit/team inter and intra departmentally
• Attend all in-service education as required by hospital policy and national credentialing agency requirements
• Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees
• Stay informed by attending meetings and reviewing memos, policies, newsletters, and emails in a timely manner
• Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality, including extending scheduled shifts when necessary to meet patient demands
• Perform duties in a safe manner in compliance with all safety policies and procedures
• Comply with the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures
• Maintain current knowledge of quality improvement programs and participate in departmental and hospital-wide quality improvement activities
• Adhere to federal, state, and local statutes and regulations
• Adhere to all privacy and security policies and procedures
• Communicate any concerns related to compliance or confidentiality issues to the appropriate officer or manager
