Job Title: Lab Tech
Location: Yuma, Colorado
Schedule: 8:00AM – 5:00PM x 5
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $49 – $53/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Lab Tech for a temporary assignment in Yuma, Colorado. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Lab Tech:
• Maintain current certification/registration with ASCP, NCA, NCA, or equivalent registry
• Coordinate testing procedures and clinical data with medical staff for the Laboratory Department
• Perform phlebotomies, therapeutic phlebotomies, arterial and capillary collections for specimen procurement using age-related techniques
• Perform EKGs as required
• Integrate current scientific knowledge with technical competency in laboratory operations
• Demonstrate knowledge and participation in the implementation of Safety/Chemical Hygiene Plan, Infectious/Exposure Control Plan, Electrical Safety, Disaster Plan, Fire Plan, and Compliance and Ethics policies
• Clarify physician orders and answer questions about orders, specimens, and results
• Maintain standards in routine, timed, and STAT testing while demonstrating the ability to set priorities
• Share weekend and daily on-call hours with other staff technologists
• Assist in the orientation and training of new employees
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment and support workplace safety
• Prepare and monitor quality control charts, instrument function checks, and instrument maintenance protocols to guarantee quality, consistency, and integrity of results
• Use QA tools to recognize and report any hazards
• Demonstrate competency in patient care delivery in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces medical/healthcare errors
• Apply good judgment when responding to the needs of others in relation to laboratory operations
• Follow proper procedures when laboratory equipment is not functioning properly
• Follow through with incomplete procedures to ensure continuity of care
• Correlate results with diagnosis and question all incompatible results
• Demonstrate broad knowledge of all laboratory departments
• Ensure preventive maintenance performed is documented
• Identify and report medical/healthcare errors and assist in error resolution as appropriate
• Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills in English to work effectively with medical and technical personnel
• Apply computer skills to communicate with medical and technical personnel
• Work Day Shift schedule: 7 Days On, 7 Days Off (first three days are 12-hour shifts from 0500-1730; last four days are 10-hour shifts from 0700-1730)
• Be available for potential on-call responsibilities as needed
