Job Title: Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA)
Location: Potsdam, New York
Schedule: 7:00AM – 5:00PM x 4
Term: 26-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $127 – $136/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA) for a locum tenens assignment in Potsdam, New York. These positions are 26-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA):
• Provide comprehensive care to hospitalized patients, working closely with physicians and healthcare teams to manage patient treatment and ensure quality care
• Perform robotic surgery assistance (robotics experience required)
• Cauterize wounds and vessels
• Pack sponges in body during surgical procedures
• Position patients to maintain circulation and access for surgeon
• Place clamps and sutures
• Close skin with adhesives, sutures, or staples
• Apply direct pressure on veins and tissue
• Perform or aid in patient suction, drainage, and irrigation
• Perform hemostasis to stop excess bleeding and blood flow
• Immobilize patients on the operating table
• Provide Surgical First Assist Operating Room coverage
• Provide Surgical Floor coverage including rounding and progress notes
• Manage orders, discharges, and consults on the surgical floor
• Work primarily with General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients
• Utilize Epic charting system for documentation (Epic experience required)
• Maintain current AHA BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certifications
• Maintain valid NY State License
• Possess a minimum of 2 years of recent experience
• Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills
• Adhere to required call schedule including weekday and weekend call shifts
• Remain within a 20-minute radius of the facility while on call
• Comply with facility dress code, including business casual attire and closed-toe/closed-heel footwear
• Adhere to facility policies regarding cell phone use, lunch breaks, and overtime approval
• Provide 2-hour notice for call-ins and notify supervisor as required
• Must be Board Certified
• Ensure work history is current with no gaps of 30 or more days
