Job Title: Optometrist
Location: Oakland, California
Schedule: 8:00AM – 5:00PM x 5
Term: 26-week assignment with the potential for extension.
Pay Rate: $156 – $168/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Optometrist for a temporary assignment in Oakland, California. These positions are 26-week locum tenens contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Optometrist:
• Provide pediatric optometry services in an outpatient hospital setting, seeing 12-14 patients per day with 30-minute appointments (first patient at 8:00 AM, last at 4:30 PM)
• Work a 5×8 schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Perform comprehensive eye exams for a predominantly pediatric patient population, including patients with complex medical needs such as seizures, facial abnormalities, developmental delays, and autism spectrum disorder
• Conduct strabismus and binocular vision examinations
• Perform contact lens fittings and complex contact lens fittings for pediatric patients
• Collaborate with support staff including technicians, ophthalmologists, and other optometrists
• Work alongside technicians who perform and run diagnostic imaging equipment
• Co-manage patients alongside other pediatric specialties within the facility
• See patients of all cognitive abilities, including a high volume of patients on the autism spectrum
• May see select adult patients with developmental delays or double vision (not mandatory)
• Utilize Epic EMR system for all patient documentation and charting
• Maintain current BLS (AHA) certification
• Maintain a valid California state optometry license
• Hold a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree; residency in pediatric optometry highly preferred
• Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of experience working with pediatric populations in a medical center setting (unless a pediatric optometry residency has been completed)
• Maintain CA DEA with Schedule 2/2N
• Comply with COVID-19 vaccination requirements, including booster (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Be available to provide DOB, SSN, license, contact information, and a signed credentialing form within 72 hours of offer signing to initiate privileging process
