Job Title: Optometrist
Location: Oakland, California
Schedule: 8:00AM – 5:00PM x 5
Term: 26-week assignment with the potential for extension.
Pay Rate: $156 – $168/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Optometrist for a temporary assignment in Oakland, California. These positions are 26-week locum tenens contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Optometrist:
• Provide outpatient pediatric optometry care in a hospital-based setting, seeing 12-14 patients per day with 30-minute appointments from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• Perform comprehensive eye exams and workups for pediatric patients of all cognitive abilities, including those on the autism spectrum
• Conduct strabismus and binocular vision exams
• Perform contact lens fittings and complex contact lens fittings for pediatric patients
• Evaluate and manage high-acuity pediatric optometry patients, including those co-managed by other pediatric specialties (e.g., patients with seizures and facial abnormalities)
• See patients with developmental delays and double vision, including some adult patients with these conditions (not mandatory)
• Collaborate with support staff including technicians, ophthalmologists, and other optometrists
• Utilize diagnostic imaging equipment, with technicians available to run imaging studies
• Document patient care and clinical findings using the Epic EMR system
• Maintain current BLS certification (AHA-approved)
• Hold and maintain a valid California state optometry license
• Possess a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree; residency in pediatric optometry highly preferred
• Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of experience working with pediatric populations in a medical center setting (if no pediatric residency)
• Comply with COVID-19 vaccination requirements including booster (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Submit to credentialing and privileging process, including timely submission of required documentation within 72 hours of signing
