Location: Wrangell, Alaska
Schedule: 7:00PM – 7:00AM x 3
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $39 – $42/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a CNA for a temporary assignment in Wrangell, Alaska. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a CNA:
• Obtain nursing data through interviewing and observing residents under a Licensed Nurse’s (LN) direction
• Document observation findings consistent with other providers under LN supervision
• Provide general nursing care for adult and geriatric populations, including bed baths, oral hygiene, hair combing, back care, dressing patients, and application of heat/cold appliances
• Apply anti-embolism stockings or Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
• Monitor and record temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse oximetry, and intake-output measurements
• Collect and transport specimens to correct departments
• Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings as identified in the patient care plan and report abnormal findings to the LN
• Report and record any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients/residents and unusual incidents
• Provide bedside care including positioning, lifting, and turning residents
• Assist residents with use of bedpan, urinal, or commode
• Answer call lights and make rounds to assigned residents
• Ambulate residents and transport to and from various departments as required
• Assist residents with meals or feed residents as needed
• Aid in handling and care of residents’ belongings (dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, prosthetic devices, etc.) throughout their stay
• Change bed linens and perform general room care including cleaning over-bed tables and bedside stands
• Assist LN with readying a resident for transport, including making phone calls, copying papers and charts, and providing direct resident care
• Provide 1:1 care/sitting for residents when indicated for patient/resident safety
• Prepare nursing areas and/or resident rooms and beds for admissions, transfers, emergencies, or discharges
• Assist in cleaning utility rooms, cleaning equipment, and preparing items for disinfection or sterilization
• Report equipment that is out of order and other problems to the nurse manager or charge nurse
• Handle clean and dirty linen appropriately and store supplies on the service area
• Perform supply duties on a daily basis, including distributing and ordering supplies to maintain adequate stock levels in assigned units
• Dispose of all solid waste and infectious waste according to organizational policies and procedures
• Replenish supplies in resident rooms and bathrooms as needed
• Obtain 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
• Train and perform the mechanics of Telemetry monitoring of patients within the inpatient unit
• Become a Point of Care Trainer within 3 months of hire
• Cross-train to additional areas of the hospital including the Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, and Surgical Department
• Cross-train to the Senior Office Specialist (SOS)/Ward Clerk positions to perform the role during high census or vacancy
• Initiate and participate in a Performance/Process Improvement project within the unit
• Serve as preceptor for incoming CNA staff and CNA students
• Maintain current full, unrestricted CNA license in the state of Alaska
• Maintain current BLS certification
• Complete and pass courses specific to unit needs (e.g., POC/waived testing)
