Job Title: Histology Tech
Location: Grand Forks, North Dakota
Schedule: 8:00AM – 4:00PM x 5
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $81 – $88/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Histology Tech for a temporary assignment in Grand Forks, North Dakota. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a Histology Tech:
• Maintain accuracy of patient identification on all specimens processed for microscopic examination
• Perform surgical specimen dissection on simple to complex specimens and provide quality material for routine histology studies and other specialized tests as required
• Obtain pathologist input for accurate gross specimen analysis when appropriate
• Perform frozen sections and maintain the cryostats
• Dictate complete and accurate gross descriptions
• Demonstrate effective communication skills in person and virtually to provide timely result reporting by interacting with pathologists and providers in an accurate, professional manner
• Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, adequate provision of supplies, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology gross cutting area and morgue
• Dispose of tissues and reagents according to standard operating procedures
• Perform, interpret, and report tests for which the individual has been validated according to standard operating procedure
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to interpret various clinical presentations of disease and technical elements of testing and apply such knowledge in conjunction with laboratory test findings to affect a timely and accurate diagnostic result
• Understand technical aspects of Anatomic Pathology, recognize reasons for discrepant test results, and take appropriate corrective action to facilitate quality results
• Perform and document quality control and routine preventive maintenance processes
• Keep gross bench procedure manual current along with review of CAP compliance
• Actively participate in problem solving, quality assurance, and quality control monitoring
• Perform additional department duties that support the delivery of a high quality product to pathologists, department operations, and overall excellence in patient care
• Maintain ASCP certification prior to start date
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department
