Job Title: MED-SURG
Location: Gardner, Massachusetts
Schedule: 2:00PM – 10:30PM x 5
Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate: $52 – $56/hr
Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a MED-SURG for a temporary assignment in Gardner, Massachusetts. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.
Responsibilities for a MED-SURG:
• Assess (and reassess), plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions, plans of care, and patient goals
• Provide patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures
• Respect each patient as an individual and provide care that fosters the patient’s sense of dignity and positive self-regard
• Provide patient/family teaching based on identified learning needs, readiness to learn, and barriers to learning
• Collaboratively plan and prepare patient/family for discharge incorporating support systems and resources as necessary
• Appropriately delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others
• Appropriately prioritize patient care, including seeking assistance as needed, reassigning personnel as necessary, and recognizing the need for emergency intervention
• Provide thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, therapeutic interventions, and patient responses according to established standards
• Provide timely and thorough report on assigned patients to other health care team members to ensure integration of services and continuity of patient care
• Promote learning for colleagues and self, including functioning as preceptor, instructor, or trainer and attending professional development programs
• Proactively identify risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical/health care errors, including appropriate reporting of errors and incidents
• Identify ethical issues in care and develop a plan to address them
• Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician orders, protocols, policies, and procedures
• Assess patient pain level upon admission and as necessary utilizing the numerical pain scale
• Reassess effectiveness of pain control, notify physicians as needed, and document assessment and patient responses to medication
• Obtain supporting information and complete required documentation related to medication reconciliation for use by the attending provider
• Interpret and document patient cardiac rate, rhythm, and configuration (PR ST segment) and initiate appropriate treatment plans based on provider orders
• Provide ongoing assessment and teaching to the surgical patient and family utilizing current standards and protocols
• Recognize normal and deviant progress patterns and report problems or concerns to the physician in a timely manner
• Utilize pain management devices and other techniques to ensure proper pain relief
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment related to the surgical patient, including traction/orthopedic equipment/devices, feeding pumps, chest tubes, and drains
• Maintain current MA RN license
• Maintain ACLS certification upon hire or hold an active BLS card and obtain AHA ACLS within 60 days of hire
• Demonstrate mature professional behaviors including tact, empathy, and diplomacy
